Costco Offers Ozempic and Wegovy for $499 Monthly

Popular weight-loss medications, Ozempic and Wegovy, are now accessible at over 500 Costco pharmacies throughout the United States. This collaboration was revealed by Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of these semaglutide-based drugs, in a recent announcement on social media platform X.

Costco members who have a prescription can purchase a four-week supply of either drug for $499, which represents a significant discount—approximately half the list price of Ozempic and about two-thirds lower than Wegovy’s standard cost.

The details regarding these medications are already available on Costco’s website, where noteworthy information for consumers is also provided. For instance, executive members and Citibank credit card holders can enjoy a cash-back reward as part of Costco’s prescription program. Additionally, these members will receive an extra 2% discount on their purchases of these medications, as shared by Novo Nordisk.

For those who have health insurance, the cost may vary based on individual coverage plans. “We continue to find new ways to make access to our medicines more convenient, meeting people where they are,” stated a spokesperson for Novo Nordisk in a comment to The New York Times.

The pricing option available at Costco aligns with the same monthly rate listed on Novo Nordisk’s direct-to-consumer website. However, The New York Times reports that adding Costco as a partner could significantly expand the customer base for these drugs, especially as many health insurance plans have been denying coverage for them.

The drugs in question, Ozempic and Wegovy, have gained popularity for their effectiveness in helping individuals manage weight and improve health outcomes. Both medications work by mimicking a hormone that targets areas of the brain regulating appetite and blood sugar levels. As a result, patients using these drugs can experience substantial weight loss combined with lifestyle changes.

Costco’s move to carry these medications comes at a crucial time when barriers to access and insurance coverage remain significant concerns for many individuals seeking treatment for obesity and related conditions.
